FUND RAISERS
|
Most Square dancing parties, conventions and other event feature two fund raising activities during their half-time intermission and announcements. These are designed to add to the fun while raising money to defray the cost of a dance party. |
| The first is the drawing of door prizes. Each paid admission gives a dancer one chance to win one of three or four door prizes. These may run from a free admission to the next party to a lottery ticket or a simple dish towel or kitchen nick-nak from the dollar store | |
Participation in the other activity known as split the potis purely voluntary. Here a dancer may purchase any number of tickets, often at a lower cost if more than one ticket is purchased. The idea is that the total sales of the tickets is split 50-50% with a single winner. A typical winning share is enough to buy a tank of gas for the car. |
|
| A few clubs will hold yet another raffle to encourage members to attend their dance parties. Here the names of the club members are tossed into a hat and drawn for a prize. The member must be present at the dance to claim the prize. Unclaimed prizes accumulate until such time as a member is present when their name is drawn. | |
| Most square dance parties will also feature some sorts of snacks at some point of the evening. Members of a club will often contribute a dish or two to the spread as their contribution. Visitors are expected to donate a dollar or two to help defray the cost to the club for plasticware, napkins and other consumables. | |
The Hayloft also maintains a selections of soft drinks and bottled water for its guests. We use an on your honorsystem and expect anyone taking a drink will leave a dollar in the basket by the fridge. |
